No time to rest for world No 1 Federer
GENEVA: Australian Open champion Roger Federer will have little time to celebrate the victory before he has to lead Switzerland in a World Group Davis Cup first round tie in Romania this weekend.
Federer, who now tops the world rankings, only arrives back in his home town of Basel later yesterday where he will rest until today before travelling to Bucharest for the tie.
The Davis Cup is a big motivation for me, Federer told the Swiss Tennis Federation's website. It is one of my big goals to win, and I am looking forward to the tie (against Romania).
I will rest briefly and then prepare so that I am fit. Two days practicing should be enough.
Federer won the Australian Open title on Sunday with a 7-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory over Russia's Marat Safin and will lead the Swiss team comprising Michel Kratochvil, Stanislas Wawrinka and Yves Allegro.
Switzerland lost 3-2 to eventual winners Australia in the semi-finals last year. Reuters
