Cops arrest 17 NS trainees after a brawl
KOTA KINABALU: Police arrested 17 national service trainees following a fight among 20 of them that left five injured at the Likas Sports Complex camp here.
Kota Kinabalu City police chief Asst Comm Azizan Abu Taat said the arrest was made after two groups of youths exchanged blows with bare fists and belts as they were registering at the training camp on arrival from the Sansui camp in Tawau.
“We have yet to ascertain what sparked off the fight,” he said, adding that they were investigating the case under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting.
In an unrelated development, ACP Azizan said that police had arrested a 40-year-old local man believed to be a bookie involved in taking bets for the recently-concluded English Premier League championship.
He said the suspect was arrested at a house in Taman Sri Gaya in Luyang here on Sunday.
