ROAD Transport Department enforcement director Solah Mat Hassan has received three threats on his life via SMS, Sin Chew Daily reported.

The messages were the result of a recent spate of operations by the department against illegal lorries.

Solah said this was the first time he received such messages after being appointed to the position two years ago.

The contents of the messages, which were in Bahasa Malaysia, were about being shot, death and bullets.

Solah also said that there was no caller ID on his cell phone so there was no way of finding out who sent the messages.

The daily also quoted Deputy Internal Security Minister Chia Kwang Chye as saying that the ministry did not plan to give police protection for state assemblymen and Members of Parliament following the recent crimes involving politicians.

He said this was because there was no proof to show that the crimes were politically motivated.

China Press reported that TV3 and 8TV would stop all its SMS contests.

It said 8TV's Malaysian Idol SMS voting would be exempted as it did not involve gambling. The SMS voting in NTV7's Who Will Win would also continue.

The daily also reported that most of the 11 MCA members found guilty of indiscipline during the recent general election had appealed.

Quoting party secretary-general Tan Sri Dr Ting Chew Peh, the daily said the others forfeited their right to appeal.
