BY NELSON BENJAMIN AND YAM PHUI YEEKUALA LUMPUR: City folk, who want the police to keep an eye on their homes when going on holiday, can now just send a short messaging service (SMS) text to the cops via 32728.
Besides asking for additional police patrols when they are not around, members of the public can also find out which police station to lodge their reports, locations of embassies and even hospitals via the Rakan COP SMS.
One can even register to become a Rakan COP member via SMS.
City Internal Security, Public Order and Traffic head Asst Comm Jamaludin Khalid said that all SMS sent to Rakan COP would receive a prompt reply.
“Those wanting to register as a member need not have to use their real name – they can also use a nickname.
