Sato barred from entering Brazil
SAO PAULO: Formula One driver Takuma Sato of BAR-Honda was barred from entering Brazil on Wednesday because he did not have a visa.
“He arrived Wednesday morning for some kind of publicity campaign, but was not allowed in the country,'' said Federal Police spokesman Celso D'Arcke. “He had no visa.''
After several hours in a room at Sao Paulo's International Airport of Guarulhos, the Japanese star boarded a plane back to England where he lives, Arcke said by telephone.
“It was the same flight he was scheduled to take after ending his visit to Sao Paulo which was planned to last less than 24 hours,'' Arcke said.
It was unclear what the publicity campaign involved, but local press reports said Sato planned to visit the Japanese neighbourhood of Liberdade where he was to teach journalists how to prepare sushi. – AP
