LKIM to repair damaged boats
KUALA TERENGGANU: The Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) will repair fishing boats and equipment damaged in the Dec 26 tsunami in Perlis, Kedah, Penang and Perak within three months as directed by the Government.
Its director-general Datuk Annas Khatib Jaafar said 2,300 boats were reported damaged, affecting the livelihood of 5,597 fishermen.
“LKIM will use the RM50mil allocation it received this year to repair the boats and equipment and help the fishermen get back on their feet after the disaster,” he said at the opening of the Grilled Fish Foodcourt at Ru Sepuluh near here on Saturday.
The foodcourt was built by the National Fishermen’s Association to help increase the income of fishermen in the state. – Bernama
