Bakti gives food and utensils
KUALA LUMPUR: The Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (Bakti) donated food and kitchenware to tsunami victims in Kedah and Penang.
Its president Datin Paduka Seri Endon Mahmood said food and utensils such as kettles and plates were much needed by housewives who were rebuilding their homes.
“That is why we are giving things such as woks, kettles, plates and groceries such as rice, sugar, milk and meehoon.
“They are important to the housewives,” she said at Rumah Bakti Siti Hasmah in Taman Tun Dr Ismail.
Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Syed Razak Syed Zain and Penang Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Abdul Rashid Abdullah and their wives received the items, packed in large boxes, on behalf of the victims.
Both states received 200 boxes each.

In Petaling Jaya, nine-year-old Devin Deo gave RM100 of his savings to the victims.
“The children have no mums and dads. What will happen to them? Will we be hit by the same devastation in the future?” he asked when he came with his father, Dr J.S. Deo, to Menara Star to donate to The Star Earthquake/Tsunami Relief Fund yesterday.
The family gave RM1,300.
Dr Deo, who is the Malaysian Doctors’ Co-operative Society chairman, also presented a RM20,000 cheque from the society for the Malaysian Red Crescent Society.
“People should continue to help out and not forget the disaster even after it’s no longer a hot issue,” he added.
