Fishermen return money
KANGAR: Twenty inshore fishermen who were accidentally given another RM500 each from the Perlis Tsunami Disaster Fund returned the money at the Heritage Hall here.
They raised their hands to notify the officials about the discrepancy caused by a mix-up by the announcer who read out their names from a separate list.
Their honesty was applauded by all present in the hall including Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim.
The 20 were among 98 fishermen from Kuala Sanglang who attended a ceremony to receive RM20,000 in aid.
They told the officials that they had already received RM300 each when aid was given to fishermen from Kuala Sungai Baru last week.
The fishermen suffered property damages to their boats and houses caused by the Dec 26 tsunami.
