Triathlon to help pump up funds
KANGAR: Organisers of the Sixth Langkawi Ironman international triathlon which will be held on Feb 27 will help to raise funds for tsunami victims.
Langkawi Ironmen Endurance Marathon Sdn Bhd executive director A. Chandrakumanan said they received enquiries on the matter from foreign participants.
We are working with the participants and the Tourism Ministry to find ways to raise the funds, he said.
He said some 150 people would take part in this years competition compared to 300 last year.
He also said the organisers would work with the Kedah government to organise the fund-raising.
We will seek ideas from the public and private sectors on how to raise the funds, he said.
Participants in the competition, billed as the worlds toughest sporting event, must swim 3.8km, cycle 180.2km and finish it by running a marathon distance of 42.2km to earn the title of Ironman.
