Watchful eye on east coast as monsoon arrives early
PETALING JAYA: The Meteorological Services Department is paying extra attention to the east coast now that the north-east monsoon season has arrived.
A department spokesman said advisories had already been given to the state governments and agencies involved to look out for floods and other emergency situations.
He also said that the monsoon had arrived early this year.

“It is our duty to monitor the situation, and from time to time we will see if there is a need to upgrade the warnings given,” he said.
Yesterday was “Clients Open Day” for the department. Activities included a briefing by central forecast office director Kang Thean Shong on how the equipment worked and what forecast charts meant.
“We prepare weather forecasts for seven days, for all states and tourists attractions. All the results we get from our stations nationwide are updated twice a day,” Kang said.
