Azmi: Government will protect woman in video if she comes out
PENGKALAN PASIR: The Government is willing to provide protection to the naked woman doing ear squats in the controversial video clip in a bid to get her to come forward and give evidence.
“Let me assure the victim or victims that they shall be protected. They can help us in the investigations and bring the culprits to justice,” Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmi Khalid said.
He added that there was suspicion that the victim could be an illegal, as this would explain why she was not willing to come forward.
The 70-second video clip, said to be taken with a cellphone camera, has been circulated through the multimedia messaging service over the last few days and exposed by Seputeh MP Teresa Kok in Parliament.
Azmi said protection would also be accorded to anybody who knew the victim or victims if they could coax them to come forward.
“This is all part of the process to ensure that investigations can be wrapped up fast and the case resolved,” he added.
Azmi said this after presenting rifles to 31 Kelantan Rela members at SMK Mekasakar here yesterday.
Azmi also said his trip to China to clarify the allegation that female Chinese nationals were being singled out by authorities would be postponed to Dec 20. He said his counterpart in China requested for the postponement as he had some issues to settle first.
In Kuala Lumpur, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Bernard Dompok said stripping and asking foreign visitors to do ear squats should not happen at all in a civilised country.
He added that the Government was very unhappy with the way Chinese nationals were treated by the police.
“We want to know why they were stripped and asked to do ear squats,” he told reporters after opening the Conference on Religion, Human Rights and International Relations organised by the Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism and Sikhism.
