Reggie’s colourful characters
SUBANG JAYA: Cartoonist Reggie Lee has created five characters which will be featured as mascots at this years Pesta Ekspo Pulau Pinang.
It is the first time that a cartoonist has been commissioned to design mascots for the annual one-month-long celebration.
Lee, 50, said he received a call from Pesta organising chairman Datuk Ahmad Fuad Ismail about two months ago.
When he conveyed the task, I was thrilled, being an anak Pulau Pinang, said Lee, who also draws cartoons for The Star.

Lee said he took two months to come up with the designs and logos featured on billboards and postcards.
Initially, I suggested four mascots to represent the major races in the country but later, another one was added to represent East Malaysia.
Lee said the human-sized mascots were named Pie (a Malay), Elin (a Kadazan), Singh (a Punjabi), Tan (a Chinese) and Anju (an Indian). Together, the first letters of their names form the word pesta.
He added that the mascots would be unveiled at the Pesta site in Sungai Nibong tomorrow.
The theme for this years Pesta is Colourful Penang, Come Join Us.
Apart from local exhibitors, the fair has also attracted exhibitors from Indonesia, China, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and Myanmar.
