Event used to build teamwork
THE PETALING JAYA MUNICIPAL COUNCIL (MPPJ) has entered 18 teams for the Milo- Selangor Inter-team junior squash championships starting at the PJ Astaka today.
The competition with four categories – girls’ Under-13, boys’ Under-13, girls’ Under-17 and boys’ Under-17- will be an ideal opportunity for MPPJ to gauge the progress of its juniors.
The championships, offering a total cash purse of RM 9,000, is organised by the Squash Rackets Association of Selangor (SRAS) and MPPJ and sanctioned by the Squash Rackets Association of Malaysia (SRAM)
SRAS president Datuk Mohamed Aini Taib said the aim of the competition was provide Selangor juniors with competitive matches.

“We have been exposing our juniors to various individual tournaments and want them to cherish the value of team spirit,'' said Mohamed Aini.
SRAS secretary Mary Ong said they had received overwhelming response for the three-day championships.
Besides the local teams, the organisers have also entries from Singapore. The Lions are coming with 25 teams.
Each tie is decided over four matches. In case of a draw, a countback, based on sets followed by points, will decide the winner. So, players have to fight for every point.
