PM: Inform Idris of overspending by MAS
KUALA LUMPUR: Those who believe they have information on overspending by Malaysia Airlines should forward it to the national carriers new chief executive officer Idris Jala, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said.
Such information should be given to him as he had told me as well as the MAS senior management that he is prepared to take any action to overcome problems in the company, the Prime Minister said, in response to a report quoting a senator that overspending was still occurring in MAS.
The senator also suggested that Petronas chief executive officer Tan Sri Mohd Hassan Merican be appointed as MAS CEO.
Speaking after the Umno Malaysia Golf Tournament 2005 yesterday, Abdullah said he was not in the position to know whether MAS was practising wastefulness because these were management issues.
I do not have the MAS accounts so there is no way for me to know whether there was overspending or not, he said.
He said it was Idris who was in the position to know whether this was happening and for him to correct them.
On the call that Hassan take over the helm at MAS, Abdullah said Idris had just been appointed to the post and should be given a chance to run the company.
