50 bullets found in public toilet

MIRI: This is one careless act that is going to be very hard to explain to the boss.

It was the day after Christmas when someone left behind more than 50 live bullets in the men's public toilet of a petrol station near the tourist town of Batu Niah.

And the Miri police certainly do not think they were left by Santa Claus.

Instead, they are working on the theory that the bullets – found at Km120 of the Miri-Bintulu section of the Pan-Borneo Highway – belonged to someone who is with the security forces.

Miri deputy police chief Supt Abang Abdillah Abang Othman has even gone so far as to speculate that the person responsible may have had a drink too many.

According to him, police received a report on Monday from some workers at the petrol station that a box of bullets had been found inside the toilet.

“The police in Batu Niah rushed to the scene immediately on receiving the call. We found only the bullets. There was no firearm,” he said yesterday.

The bullets have been sent for testing.

“They are live bullets used for military training purposes and only certain personnel have access to this type of ammunition,” Supt Abdillah said.

“We have contacted the army and GOF (General Operations Force) management to seek their help in identifying who among their personnel have access to such bullets. These are powerful bullets,” he said.
