Kournikova stalker once stabbed a student

MIAMI: A homeless man accused of stalking tennis star Anna Kournikova once stabbed a sleeping college student in Milwaukee, an attack prosecutors used on Wednesday to get his bail increased.

William Lepeska was arrested Jan. 30 after police said he swam nude across Biscayne Bay in search of Kournikova's US$5 million house on Miami Beach's Sunset Island 3.

Prosecutor Stephen Immasche convinced County Court Judge Fred Seraphin to raise Lepeska's bail from US$26,000 to US$50,000 after Wisconsin officials said Lepeska had stabbed a University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee male student in the head and neck area five or six times.

Lepeska was convicted of first-degree reckless injury and was imprisoned from 1995 to 2000. In late 2001, he was returned to prison for eight months for violating his probation.

Lepeska remained at Miami-Dade County Jail, pending today's arraignment on stalking and burglary charges. – AP
