PM wants report on nightclub raid
PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has directed the Attorney-Generals Chambers to prepare a report on the legality of a raid on a nightclub by the Federal Territory Religious Department (Jawi) on Jan 20.
Minister in the Prime Ministers Department Datuk Dr Abdullah Md Zain said the directive was issued during Wednesdays Cabinet meeting.
Dr Abdullah was asked whether Jawi enforcement officers had acted beyond their powers when they raided the nightspot.
The officers allegedly herded about 100 Muslim youths, half of them women, into lorries and held them for 10 hours at their headquarters. They were alleged to have humiliated some of the women by passing lewd remarks about their attire and taking pictures.
Dr Abdullah said the officers had acted according to standard procedures.
