Mangrove replanting lauded
KUCHING: The Government has been lauded for its commitment to replanting lost mangrove forests.
Sarawaks leading social worker Datuk Seri Ang Lai Soon said the recent tsunami tragedy had shown that the protected barrier provided by such forests had cushioned the impact.
He said protection provided by such forests was therefore a matter of life and death.
The tsunami has brought about renewed realisation that we must put back the mangrove forests we have destroyed if we are not to suffer severe backlashes, he said in a statement yesterday.
