Brisk ticket sales for Sepang race
PETALING JAYA: Ticket sales have been good so far for the Petronas Malaysian F1 Grand Prix next weekend with about 50,000 tickets already sold to date.
Sepang Internatinal Circuit (SIC), organisers of the Malaysian GP expects to sell another 10,000 ticket by this weekend. SIC have targetted 120,000 tickets to be sold for the three-day event which starts next Friday.
“From previous experience, we could sell another 40,000 tickets during race day on Sunday,” said SIC general manager Ahmad Mustafa.
The Asean region contributed to 10,000 tickets with the majority sold to motorsports fans from Thailand and Singapore.
Sales have also been encouraging elsewhere.
“In the United Kingdom, we sold 3,500 tickets, Holland 1,500 and South Africa 1,500,” added Ahmad.
However, fans from Scandinavian countries are expected to dwindle this year as many have cancelled their vacation plans because of the tsunami on Dec 26 last year.
“Quite a number of the European tourists cancelled their vacation to this region because of the tsunami which in turn has affected the number of spectators to Sepang,” he added.
