MRCS tsunami drive gets Renault help
PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) has received 10 Renault Kangoo commercial vehicles for its tsunami rehabilitation and reconstruction work.
Renault Asean area operations manager Olivier Delamarre, speaking at the handing-over ceremony at the main Renault showroom here yesterday, said it was hoped that the contribution would help in efforts to accelerate the recovery of countries hit by the killer waves in December.
The company would be making a similar contribution to Thailand, Indonesia and Sri Lanka.
MRCS chairman Tunku Tan Sri Shahriman Tunku Sulaiman said that efforts to help victims of the tsunami catastrophe could not be shouldered solely by the governments of the affected countries.
“We are pleased to have such a caring corporate citizen to support our humanitarian aid,” he said.
The deputy prime minister’s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, presented the vehicles on behalf of Renault.
She urged other companies to emulate the French carmaker.
“Without the support of generous individuals, organisations and private companies, it will be very difficult for the Government to carry out its efforts to help the victims,” she said.
