Fake credit card ring’s boss under probe by ACA too
BY NELSON BENJAMINKUALA LUMPUR: The mastermind of a fake credit card syndicate, who allegedly tried to bribe the police during a raid on his house in Pandan Perdana, is now being investigated by the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA).
The man, in his 50s, is said to have offered RM250,000 to the police at the three-storey house which overlooked a golf course in Pandan Indah on March 5.
Federal Territory ACA director Chuah Chang Man confirmed that several statements had been recorded from the man but declined to elaborate on the investigations.
The ACA started its investigations based on a report lodged at the Pandan Indah police station.
The report stated that the man had offered a RM250,000 bribe to the police.
It is learnt that at least four ACA officers had gone to the Sentul police headquarters to record statements from several policemen, including a senior officer, recently.
The man faces a 20-year jail term or a fine five times the bribe amount under Section 11(b) of the ACA Act.
Reports of the police refusing the bribe even received the attention of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi who commended a police officer for rejecting the money.
In the raid, a police team from the Sentul headquarters seized more than 900 fake credit cards with a combined credit limit of more than RM7mil from the man's house.
The mastermind was raking in millions of ringgit through his illegal operation for several years.
Devices used to store credit card information and machines used to produce the fake cards, including hologram safety stickers, were seized from the master bedroom of the man's house.
