Montoya doubtful for Bahrain after freak accident
LONDON: McLaren's Juan Pablo Montoya could miss next Sunday's Bahrain Grand Prix after injuring his shoulder playing tennis on Saturday.
He just slipped and fell on his shoulder. He has got a hairline crack in his shoulder and a certain amount of tissue damage, a McLaren spokesman said.
Montoya, fourth in Malaysia a week ago and tied for third in the season standings with eight points, is waiting for the injury to stabilise before having tests in the next few days.
McLaren said a decision on whether Montoya will race in Bahrain is likely on Thursday.
If the Colombian cannot race his seat will almost certainly go to Spanish reserve driver Pedro de la Rosa.
Fellow test driver Alexander Wurz is too tall to fit into the current version of the team's MP4-20 chassis.
Montoya is currently awaiting the birth of his first child, which is due within the next few weeks. Reuters
