Malaysians ranked sixth in Commonwealth Games
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia have been ranked sixth in the Commonwealth Games and are among only three Asian teams to be invited to play in the Melbourne Games next year.
The other two are Pakistan and India. The Australians, who won the hockey title in the 1998 and 2002 editions in Kuala Lumpur and Manchester respectively, are the top ranked team while Pakistan are in second place ahead on the Indians.
The Melbourne organisers have invited the top 10 teams in the Commonwealth for the tournament. Wales and Bangladesh are the reserve teams for the men's event.
Besides the three Asian teams and Australia, the invited teams are New Zealand, England, Canada, South Africa, Scotland and Trinidad and Tobago.
In the women's category, the Malaysians are ranked ninth place and have gained an invitation to play in the 10-team tournament.
The Australians are again the top seeds while the Kiwis are second. The reserves for the women’s category are Trinidad and Tobago and Wales.

Reserves: 11. Wales, 12. Bangladesh.

Reserves: 11. Trinidad & Tobago and Wales (equal)
