Roo plans to keep learning after winning award

LONDON: Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney says he plans to keep learning after winning the Young Player of the Year award from the English Professional Footballers’ Association.

The 19-year-old, who joined United in a £27mil move from Everton, received the award on the same day he fired a stunning winner against Newcastle.

It was his 15th goal in all competitions so far this season.

Teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, Tottenham’s Jermain Defoe, Arjen Robben of Chelsea, Middlesbrough’s Stewart Downing and Manchester City’s Shaun Wright-Phillips were also nominated.

“Obviously for any footballer to receive any award is a great achievement, and especially so when it is one voted for by all your fellow professionals,” said Rooney.

“As a footballer, you are always looking to improve and learn from the people around you.

“If I keep learning and keep my feet on the ground, then hopefully I can start winning more trophies.” – AFP
