Three kindergartens ordered closed
SEREMBAN: Three kindergartens in the state have been ordered to close temporarily after several of their pupils showed symptoms of hand, foot and mouth (HFM) disease.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said this was a precautionary measure to control the spread of the disease.
He said the kindergartens – two in Tampin and one in Seremban – were ordered closed until the health authorities give them the all-clear sign to reopen.
“We have yet to confirm whether the children are suffering from the disease and will monitor the situation.
“All nurseries and kindergartens should take steps to ensure cleanliness of their premises and alert the authorities if children are detected having symptoms of HFM,” he said after signing an agreement with TH Plantations Sdn Bhd to dispose 49% of the shares owned by Negri Sembilan Islamic Council in Ladang Bangka Ulu at the Royal Adelphi Hotel here yesterday.
Mohamad said three suspected cases of typhoid were also detected in Gemencheh, Tampin and Jelebu, but these were not related to the recent outbreak in Kelantan.
He said the people should not be unduly worried as typhoid cases normally broke out in the state from time to time.
“The public can play a role by patronising clean eateries and drinking only boiled water.
“We have already activated the district operations room in the affected areas,” he said, adding that the health authorities were in the midst of collecting samples from the premises visited by the three suspected victims.
