Old villager caught red-handed abusing kid
BY SIMON KHOOKUALA PILAH: At least 10 kids and ducks went missing the past few months and the villagers in Kampung Malan, Dangi were up to their wits end thinking who could have stolen them.
Despite the high suspicion placed on an elderly man, the villagers had no evidence to link him to the disappearance of the animals.
It was not until Tuesday that the 75-year-old man was caught red-handed abusing a young goat.
A 34-year-old villager spotted the man bundling the animal in an open field at about 7.30pm.
He alerted the others and trailed him to a pond about a kilometre away.
There, they saw the man committing “the act” with the kid, which was barely a few weeks old.
The villagers confronted the man, who was then naked, but he denied any wrongdoing. He claimed that he was taking a bath at the pond.
Not satisfied with the explanation, the villagers picked up the kid, which had already died, and brought it to the police station.
OCPD Supt Jaafar Baba, who confirmed that a report was lodged, said police was investigating the case for buggery with an animal under Section 377 of the Penal Code.
“We have recorded a statement from the suspect and released him on police bail,” he said, declining to elaborate further.
It is learnt the carcass, weighing about 5kg, had been sent to the Veterinary Services Department for an autopsy.
The elderly man was married with two wives and several children.
