Explosion in Chinese coal mine traps 29 miners
BEIJING (AP) - A gas explosion in a coal mine in western China trapped 29 miners, the government said Friday.
The explosion occurred Thursday evening in Hancheng, a city in Shaanxi province, a major coal-mining area, the Xinhua News Agency reported, citing local mine safety officials.
There was no immediate word on whether there were any signs the trapped miners might be alive.
China reports thousands of deaths a year in its coal mines in fires, floods and explosions. - AP
