Arsenal’s Campbell up for FA Cup comeback

LONDON: Sol Campbell is on target for a big-match comeback in the English FA Cup semi-final against Blackburn Rovers on April 16 after returning to action for Arsenal in their 4-0 reserves win over Norwich City on Monday night.

The England international defender has been out of action for the Gunners since February with an ankle injury sustained against Manchester United.

The 30-year-old is now sure to be in Arsenal’s squad to play Middlesbrough on Saturday and if he plays in that match he should be included in the FA Cup semi-final squad.

“It’s been really frustrating for me,” Campbell told Sky Sports TV. “It’s great to be out there.

“I’ve had time to think and you wonder if you’re going to get back before the end of the season.

“It’s been a frustrating season for me really with injuries so hopefully that’s the back of the injuries now.”

Campbell, who missed the start of the season with an ankle problem, has played in just 18 Arsenal matches this campaign and the reigning English champions have missed his calming influence at the back. – AFP
