Filter prevents access to child porn
STOCKHOLM: Several Swedish Internet providers yesterday introduced a filter aimed at preventing Internet users from accessing websites depicting child pornography.
When an Internet customer tries to access a website containing child pornography, a blocking site automatically pops up containing information about the filter, as well as a link to the police.
The filter was launched last year in Norway.
We have very positive experiences from Norway where we have a good and effective co-operation with the police, Telenor spokesman Moniqa Lofstedt said.
Rival Telia Sonera, which has about half of the Swedish market, also implemented the filter.
Telenor, which is a carrier for several other companies, has about 20% of the Swedish Internet market.
Some 1,000 websites are currently listed.
Most of them are located outside Sweden, police said. dpa
