Malaysia offers to help rebuild Iraq and Palestine
DOHA: Malaysia will extend assistance to Iraq and Palestine in the reconstruction of the two countries, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
He said Malaysia was prepared to offer training for officers from the two countries in whatever field they required.
They can suggest to us the areas of training they need and we can provide them as we have the expertise and facilities, he told Malaysian journalists after attending the Second South Summit of G77 and China which ended on Thursday night.
Abdullah said Malaysia could also train Iraqi and Palestinian officials under the Malaysia Technical Cooperation Programme.
The programme, started in 1980, had carried out 122 training sessions so far, said Abdullah, who is also chairman of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference and the 114-member Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
He made the offer during his bilateral meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Abdel Multlaq Hamoud AlJabbo at the sidelines of the summit.
Abdullah said Malaysia was also willing to accept Iraqi and Palestinian students to pursue tertiary education in Malaysia.
The Prime Minister also asked Malaysian companies undertaking contract work in foreign countries to ensure their job was of high quality.
He said shoddy work and failure to complete a job on schedule could harm Malaysia's ties with the countries awarding the contracts.
He said a good record would pave the way for wider opportunities for other Malaysian firms. Bernama
