Girls get to watch anti-drug concert thanks to loving dad
BY NG SI HOOI AND JULLIAN KHORKUALA LUMPUR: It was father's love that prompted a businessman to stand under the hot sun with his two daughters for over six hours to watch TVB8’s Anti-Drug Concert in Jalan Bukit Bintang here.
Khiew Khai Keong, 41, even took leave so that Chi Yen, 13, and Chi Xian, seven, could watch their favourite stars perform.
“They have been begging me for weeks to bring them to the concert.
“Although it was hot and crowded, I still brought them here as I did not want to disappoint them,” Khiew said.

“Healthy activities such as the concert can attract young people who can get the anti-drug message,” he added.
Chi Yen said she was excited to meet her favourite star Fish Leong.
“I love my daddy. He has made my dream (in meeting Fish Leong) come true,” she said.
“Instead of me giving him a Father’s Day present tomorrow (today), he gave me a memorable gift,” she said, adding that they would “reward” their father by taking him to a restaurant and paying with their pocket money.
The weather had been hot and superstars like Hong Kong's Alan Tam and Hacken Lee sent the 100,000 fans into a frenzy from 8.40pm.
The three-hour concert kicked off with Hong Kong, Taiwanese and Malaysian singers belting Rasa Sayang together.
Then Lee took the microphone and told the crowd: “Say no to drugs. No! No! No!”
Lee was one of the biggest attractions of the night.
He thrilled the crowd with his hits Red Day, I Do Not Know How to Sing and Who Can I Ask for Love while Tam performed Forever 25.
Local singer Leong was not to be outdone.
Her rendition of The Sound of Applause Begins got the crowd singing along with gusto.
Other singers included Shawn Yue, Emma Wong, Jade Kwan, Hins Cheung, Angela An, May Day, Energy, Danny One, Sunday Yu, Ron Ng, Kevin Cheng, Raymond Lam and Steve Chou.
Organised by TVB8 and Astro, the concert was held in support of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on Sunday.
It was under the auspices of the Internal Security Ministry, the National Drugs Agency and the Kuala Lumpur City Hall.
Like the Khiew family, sisters Ria Amira Azmi and Ria Wardiah had also waited since noon to secure a good spot to watch the show.
“We wanted to watch our favourite group Energy perform,” said 17-year-old Ria Amira.
Although tired from waiting, she said they did not leave the place as others might take over.
“We were standing under the hot sun but it was all worth it as we met Energy and Alan Tam later. Luckily, we had packed our lunch and drinks,” Ria Wardiah said.
Student Wan Yoke Khong, 18, was among those who were thrilled to get autographs from their favourite stars during the afternoon rehearsals.
Wan said the Government should organise more such healthy activities.
“If we support our idols, we will not ‘support’ drug as they ask us not to do so,” Wan said.
