Its chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said there was a small group of narrow-minded people who opposed the wing’s aspiration to put forward the Malay agenda.
In his winding-up speech, he expressed regret that the proposal was met with cynical remarks by certain newspapers.
“I myself have been criticised for our stand. We will defend (our proposal) to bring back the NEP,” he said.
“It was not we who are narrow-minded but these small groups of people who have such a mindset.”
Hishammuddin said he represents 500,000 educators in the country, who being the most important element in nation building, needed to be truly professionals.
To this end, he said the spirit of the NEP would be part of efforts to ensure that education was set on a level playing field.
The ministry will ensure that the gap between rural and urban schools would be reduced to an extent that both enjoyed equal status in quality teachers and infrastructure.
