Son: Dr M sad over AP issue
KUALA LUMPUR: A son of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad spoke of how his father was sad, very disappointed and frustrated over the controversy surrounding the approved permit (AP) issue that saw him locked in a battle with International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Rafidah Aziz.
Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir said his father was pursuing the issue for national interest but perhaps an old friend was in the way.
And because of that, unfortunately, maybe a friendship has been slightly disrupted. But the number one priority for him is national interest, the Umno Youth exco member said, when asked how his father felt about the whole episode.
He was speaking to reporters last night after attending a birthday bash for Dr Mahathir at the Putra World Trade Centre.
Mukhriz also said that it was the Malay way for Rafidah to apologise to Dr Mahathir and that an apology was a sign of respect for an elder, not an admission of guilt.
Many had expected her to apologise to him during her speech at the Umno general assembly but she did not.
This issue has not been settled.
For my father, I don't think that is what he seeks. What he wants is an explanation and the truth.
Many people, he said, were still waiting for Rafidah to give a satisfactory explanation on the AP issue.
