Abdullah’s wife coming home next month

PUTRAJAYA: Datin Paduka Seri Endon Mahmood, whose health was the subject of last week's SMS-based rumours, will be coming home late next month.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said his wife had responded positively to breast cancer treatment in Los Angeles.

“Thank God, Endon is doing well.People who have undergone this treatment will know how tough it is but she is coping. She eats well.

“Endon wishes to state her thanks and appreciation to those who wished her well,” Abdullah said upon his return from Los Angeles where he spent a week with his wife.

Asked whether he knew about the text messages on Endon circulating in Malaysia, Abdullah replied: “I did not read a single one. Maybe people did not want to tell me.”

Rumours that Endon’s health was on the decline started circulating when Abdullah left for the United States last week, prompting the Prime Minister’s Office to issue a denial.

Asked to comment on malicious text messages flying about in the run-up to the MCA elections next weekend, Abdullah said: “I hope it will not be our culture.”

Criticising those who use technology for character assassination, the Prime Minister said ours was a progressive nation with first-class facilities and the people were educated, “yet our minds are like those in Third World countries.”

On Tan Sri Zaki Azmi's resignation from the Umno disciplinary board after his publicised divorce, Abdullah who is Umno president said:

“If he wants to get married or get a divorce, that is his business.”
