Selayang council puts more bite into its fight
By STUART MICHAEL
BECAUSE of an alarming rise in dengue cases, the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) is taking no chances and is stepping up measures to ensure the fever does not spread.
For the last two months alone, MPS has conducted fogging exercises in 4,560 premises and outside 18,930 premises in the council's jurisdiction.
Council president Zainal Abidin Azim said MPS had identified the dengue cases in Taman Rawang Perdana 1, Taman Rawang Perdana 2, Kampung Melayu Sri Kundang Zone A, Kampung Damai Batu 17 and Kuang.
MPS has increased the fogging and gotong-royong activities in the areas.
“Since January, we have held gotong-royong to clean up premises every week,'' said Zainal Abidin. “We have, to date, conducted 71 such activity for residents in the affected areas.
“We also have two vehicles that go around danger areas and buildings, conducting fogging activities, from 7am to 9am, then 6pm to 8pm daily.
“We have also taken stubborn and irresponsible individuals to task, issuing 54 compound fines since January.''
Forty of the fines were for residents, seven businessmen and seven others to building owners.
MPS is also working with Alam Flora to increase awareness among the people on the importance of keeping their premises clean.
