Do not pay, residents told
By DHARMENDER SINGH
RESIDENTS have been reminded not to fall prey to unscrupulous groups who demand payment for carrying out fogging in their area.
Subang Jaya assemblyman Datuk Lee Hwa Beng said such people took advantage of the dengue scare and this had been going on for years.
Residents, he said, should ignore them and not make payment for the fogging they carried out.
“The local council carries out fogging in areas where dengue cases have been reported,'' said Lee. “The service is carried out for free, so shut the doors on those who demand money.''
He said the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) would usually send out fogging teams in the evening. “This is the time when the Aedes mosquito come out to feed,'' he added.
Lee reminded residents to open all the windows and doors of their homes when fogging was carried out to ensure that the smoke entered the homes and killed the mosquitoes that were inside too.
“If they do not, then the outbreak in the area will continue.''
As a safety precaution, Lee urged parents to keep their children indoors whenever fogging was carried out. “That means the area has had a dengue outbreak,'' he said.
The Sepang Municipal Council (MPSp) too has stepped up efforts to fight dengue by joining forces with the Sepang District Health Department to carry out fogging.
It has also got its councillors to organise as many gotong-royong in the district.
“We are making use of the Residents Consultative Committees, headed by the councillors, to organise the gotong-royong,'' said MPSp public relations officer Zelda Mohd Zamri.
“They have been told to organise at least one every two weeks.''
