Allow workers inside homes, folk urged

By YIP YOKE TENG

KAJANG Municipal Council is urging residents in its municipality to allow council workers to enter their houses when they carry out fogging.

However, to avoid falling for bogus operators, residents have to make sure that the workers wear proper vests and come in vehicles that belong to the council.

Most importantly, they do not charge any fee for the service.

“We are concerned that when we carry out fogging around the compound, the mosquitoes will avoid the chemicals by hiding inside houses,'' said the council's corporate affairs director Shariman Mohd Nor. “When this happens, they pose a greater danger to the people.''

He said the council had been conducting fogging exercises throughout the year, increasing their frequency whenever dengue cases were reported to medical institutions. “In Sungai Chua alone, we have conducted a total of 20 fogging activity.''

Fogging the surroundings alone isn’t enough as the mosquitoes will hide inside homes, making things even more dangerous.
Shariman said the council's health officers would meet Deputy Health Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Latiff Ahmad and Health Department representatives to discuss remedial measures.

“The public must ensure the cleanliness of their own vicinity,'' he said. “They should hold gotong-royong on their own initiative, not wait for the authorities to organise one.

“After all, it is everbody's health that is at risk.''
