1,491 cases of dengue in Shah Alam
By ELAN PERUMAL
A TOTAL of 1,491 dengue cases, including 59 cases of dengue haemorrhagic fever, have been reported in Shah Alam as of last weekend, this year.
Apparently, the number is higher than that of last year's as the Shah Alam City Council works to contain the danger even 39 weeks after its outbreak.
Two areas, Section 8 and Section 24, are still considered out of danger.
“The council is adopting various measures, including checks at aedes breeding grounds and fogging, to prevent new cases and put the situation under control,'' said the council's public relations officer Asma Mohd Zin.
She said the council was conducting gotong-royong at epidemic areas. “One in Section 8 had the residents involved in a Search and Destroy operation on the aedes larva,'' she added.
Abates were also distributed to residents at the PKNS flats in the area. “Creating awareness by conducting education programmes on the seriousness of keeping homes clean are being held in small groups among the residents,'' said Asma.
In Section 24, Asma said, 186 dengue cases had been reported. “Of the number 153 were from the PKNS flats.
“We are doing everything possible to clean up the areas.''
