Zakaria family in council

KLANG: Port Klang assemblyman Datuk Zakaria Md Deros, his son Zainuri and daughter-in-law Roselinda Abdul Jamil have been appointed Klang municipal councillors despite objections.

The Selangor government released a list of 20 appointed councillors yesterday, and the three were included.

Klang municipal council president Abdul Bakir Zin, who confirmed that a list of 20 names had been received from the state government, said the names for three more posts had yet to be given.

The three posts are for Umno, MCA and MIC nominees.

Recently, Zakaria made headlines over the mansion he is building in Kampung Idaman, Pandamaran, near here.

He had not obtained the necessary approvals for the building’s construction.

Besides the three Zakaria family members, the other Umno appointees are Datuk Jaei Ismail, Norliza Ahmad, Datuk Mazlynoor Abdul Latiff, Samak Azman, Faizal Abdullah, Nassaruddin M. Zin and Mohd Abdul Raof Mokhtar.

MCA incumbents reappointed are Datuk Teh Kim Poo, Datuk Song Kee Chai and Khoh Siew Kim while the newcomers are Hock Tee alias Lim Hock Tee, Gan Yeew Tian and Choo Yuat Meng.

MIC’s Alex Thiagarasan Palaniaya has been given a second term while a newcomer is P. Supramaniam.

Gerakan’s sole councillor is newcomer Chong Hak Beang while the Selangor Palace representative is Datuk Abdul Ghani Pateh.

Bakir said councillors who were relatives would not be in the same sub-committee.
