VMY 2007 song on airwaves soon

KUALA LUMPUR: The theme song for “Visit Malaysia Year 2007” will soon air over local radio and TV stations as well as on various global satellite TV channels including CNN.

Titled “Malaysia - One Golden Celebration”, the upbeat number which combines traditional and contemporary music, is also to celebrate the country's golden jubilee.

CATCHY TUNE: Dr Wee clapping along as Juwita Sowito sings the ‘Malaysia - One Golden Celebration’ song at the launch in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
“In 2007, Malaysia will be celebrating 50 years of nationhood and we want everyone - Malaysians and foreigners - to celebrate with us,” Tourism Ministry's secretary-general Datuk Dr Victor Wee said yesterday when launching the song at the ministry's office in Menara Datuk Onn here.

The song, available in three versions - Malay, English and Mandarin - will be translated into other languages to woo tourism markets worldwide. The lyrics are catchy and carry the strong message of Malaysia being truly Asia.

A television campaign on VMY 2007 will kick off next month and feature the Prime Minister promoting Malaysia to the world, with the theme song playing in the background.

Dr Wee said the ministry hoped to achieve its target of attracting 20.1 million tourists next year.

The Government has set aside RM250mil for the campaign.
