Immoral men are the main problem
NORMAL Man reasoned that some men are attracted and aroused by the sight of naked flesh of women and are unable to control their sexual passion, “Some women do unknowingly invite advances” (The Star, Nov 24).
Therefore, women should be aware of this and help to reduce rape by dressing properly.
As a truly normal man, I am ashamed by his narrow and chauvinistic thinking.
If he believes improper dressing is one of the main reasons behind rape incidents, may I ask what is being “properly dressed” to him that will not arouse the sexual desire of these sick people to commit rape against infants, children, women in office attire, and those wearing baju kurung? What about those who rape their own daughters, relatives, neighbours or even grandmothers?
If some chauvinistic men insisted that women should dress properly to avoid arousing them, women too can suggest these men seclude themselves in the jungles and look at monkeys only so that they do not get aroused, hopefully.
Dressing is never the issue. A sick mind and shameless personality are the problems.
Rape is wrong and it cannot be made right no matter what the excuses are. The bottom-line is the perpetrator knows it is wrong to rape and he still does it.
The blame is on the rapist and should never be on anything else. Normal Man and some of our leaders too, should accept that immoral men are the main problem and not women.
More efforts should be directed at training men to strengthen their mind and respect others than to simply ask women to dress properly when there is never a safe dress code to begin with.
TRULY NORMAL MAN,
Puchong.
