Christmas play with a local setting
By K.W. Mak
The Metro Tabernacle Church in Desa Melawati, Hulu Klang staged a Christmas musical show titled “Word on the Street” at Flamingo Hotel in Ampang last week.
The play offered the biblical story of Joseph and Mary in a modern era. From happy dreams of engagement to an unjust charge of unfaithfulness, the show was trying to convey the work of God in extraordinary ways using ordinary people.

The setting for the play is a backstreet in downtown Kuala Lumpur. |
“The challenge for all Christmas plays is to restage the birth of Jesus in a refreshing and engaging way. We used a local setting for the musical and the characters are easily identifiable. The songs and dances make the play entertaining to people of all ages,” Ong said.
The setting of the play is a backstreet in Kuala Lumpur where a young painter in a dilemma after learning that his girlfriend is mysteriously pregnant after an encounter with a quirky angel.
