New face of Swatow Lane
PENANG: For more than 30 years, hawkers at Swatow Lane here have been doing their business along the roadside under the hot sun and rain.
However, this will be a thing of the past when the 16 hawkers there move into the adjacent Penang New World Park on Jan 1.

RM17mil MAKEOVER: The two-hectare Penang New World Park beside the Swatow Lane hawker site will revive memories of its glory days as a food and entertainment centre. |
On behalf of the hawkers, Lee Eng Lai, 56, said they were happy to be able to make the move.
We are excited as the hawker centre has good amenities, said the ais kacang seller, who has been doing business by the roadside for 30 years.
Most of his customers, he added, had assured him that they would come to the new centre as long as there were ample parking bays and the place was clean.
Lee said the hawkers would operate from 10am to 10pm daily at the new place. They open between 11am and 7pm at present.
