Abdullah briefs Mahathir on 9MP
SEREMBAN: Datuk Abdullah Ahmad Badawi met his predecessor Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to brief him on the nation's direction over the next five years.
Abdullah said the country's economic development and the Ninth Malaysia Plan were the key topics discussed during the meeting at the Perdana Leadership Foundation in Putrajaya.
The meeting was similar to those held with other stakeholders, such as the private sector and academicians, to get their opinions on developing the country, he told reporters after attending a cheque presentation for Felda Sendayan settlers here yesterday.
“Tun Mahathir is a veteran leader. It is good to get his views,” the Prime Minister said of the meeting.
Present at the two-hour briefing were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Second Finance Minister Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop.
Abdullah said he had also met his Cabinet members on the issue of energy and what was being considered for the National Energy Policy that would be included in the Ninth Plan.
In Putrajaya, MERGAWATI ZULFAKAR reports that Dr Mahathir had told Abdullah what he thought about the country’s economic state.
“My perception is that the economy is sluggish. And to boost it, certain things must be done,” he said.
Dr Mahathir said, however, he was pleased that the country’s leaders had sought his opinion.
