Engineer proposes to girlfriend in cinema
By EMMELINE TAN
PENANG: It was not a scene from Fun With Dick and Jane.
The movie had ended and the credits were rolling when this message suddenly flashed across the big screen: Sophia dear, I love you so much. Will you marry me? Kok Wei.
Engineer Ong Kok Wei, 27, had wanted to surprise his girlfriend Sophia Siong, 26, with a proposal she would always remember.

ROMANTIC MOMENT: Ong carrying Siong outside the cinema hall at Komplex Bukit Jambul in Penang on Thursday night. |
His gallant act caught moviegoers leaving the cineplex at Kompleks Bukit Jambul on Thursday night by surprise and they stayed back to cheer him on.
The lights then came on as N' Sync's This I Promise You was played and this time, Ong repeated his proposal verbally.
When a visibly moved Siong said yes, 10 friends walked into the cineplex with candles and scattered rose petals over the happy couple.
One of them also brought a bouquet of lilies for Ong to give Siong.
I never suspected anything at all, said Siong, a head-hunter with an employment agency.
The Kuching lass and the Teluk Intan guy had met through the Internet five years ago.
They were both counselling people online about love.
We love watching movies together and I decided to contact the cinema to see if I could propose to Sophia on screen, said Ong.
The couple plan to get married at the end of the year.
