Emphasis on family and community development
A SUM of RM842.5mil has been set aside for family and community development programmes under the 9MP. More than half of the allocation amounting to RM463.4mil will be utilised for welfare service programmes, which includes care, protection and rehabilitation of children, the disabled and the elderly.
The remaining RM379mil will be allocated for community and family development programmes.
Under the 9MP, the government will take various measures to build resilient families and create a more caring society.
The measures include formulating the National Family Policy to enhance the family institution as well as promotinga family-first concept.
A Parenting@Work programme will be introduced to provide guidance on parenting skills to create stable and resilient families.
The government will also implement the second National Plan of Action to emphasise on protection of childrenin line with the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and Vision 2020.
As for the disabled, the government will enact The People with Disabilities Act to promote and protect the rights of the disabled to live with dignity and self-respect.
The Act will ensure the rights of the disabled to an inclusive society, greater access to education and vocational training, employment, barrier free environment and access to Information and Communication Technology.
A mobile welfare unit called Unit Mayang, will be set up to ensure welfare services such as counselling, financial aid and disaster relief operations are available directly to the disabled community.
