Greater empowerment of women
THE Government will encourage the concept of the home office to encourage more women to be involved in business activities especially in agro-based industries, under the 9MP.
Emphasis will be given to empowering women by providing greater access to education and skills upgrading programmes as well as involving them in policy-making.
To increase education and training opportunities, more female students will be encouraged to take up science and engineering.
Career guidance programmes will be implemented at the primary level to instil greater awareness among female students and parents on opportunities in professional and technical fields.
To ensure that women, especially those in rural areas, continue to have access to Information and Communication Technology, formal and non-formal training programmes in computer literacy and applications will be conducted.
In line with the principles of Islam Hadhari, the Government will review legal and institutional constraints that hamper the participation of women in the economy.
To ensure the protection and welfare of women, measures will be taken to improve enforcement and speedy implementation of court decisions, including Syariah Court decisions. There will also be more guidelines on education on sexuality, living skills and behaviour change programmes to improve the health and well-being of women.
A special hospital for women and children will be established in Kuala Lumpur to serve as the national referral centre for the health and well-being of women and children.
To reduce violence against women, shelter facilities for victims of violence will be established at the existing Rumah Nur in Kelantan, Malacca, Pahang, Sabah and Selangor.
To reduce incidence of poverty and improving quality of life, special emphasis will be given to single mothers through a strategic action plan, such as Single Mother Skills Incubator to provide skills enhancement.
