RESIDENTS of Ketumbar Heights Condominium have had enough of the frequent landslides in their area and want City Hall, the Ampang Municipal Council and Syabas to solve the problem once and for all. A meeting is to be held with the authorities soon.

The condominium, with more than 800 homes, is in Taman Cheras Utama, Kuala Lumpur. The hill, Bukit Sungai Putih, where erosions occur is in Selangor.

Pandan MP Datuk Ong Tee Keat, who visited the site on Monday, said prompt action was required as there was extensive damage caused by erosion that could be seen from an adjacent reservoir.

Mudslides have been occurring since three years ago. The ones that occur near the reservoir are causing concern among the residents. The erosions have begun to affect its foundation.

“I will call for a meeting as soon as possible to address the problem,'' said Ong. “And, it is also to establish the boundary of demarcation. I hope the two local councils can work together to end the problem once and for all.''

Ong said City Hall could, for the time being, help residents to clean up the roads and the condominium compounds. Mud measuring about 0.2m is stuck at the premises following a mudslide on April 10.

Ketumbar Heights Condominium Residents Association vice-president Chong Sin Woon said residents had used their own monies to clean up the mess. “About RM5,000 has been spent so far.''

The residents are also opposed to development on Bukit Sungai Putih. MCA Cheras Service Centre chairman Lim Kim Seng said the hill, which used to be a forest reserve more than 10 years ago, had been sold to a developer so that it could be converted into a residential area.

It is the only green lung in the area.
