New industries in Sabah to provide jobs
KOTA KINABALU: New industries in Sabah are expected to provide ample employment opportunities for increasing numbers of job seekers, including 4,000 new graduates, said Chief Minister Datuk Musa Aman.
He said the establishment of the Palm Oil Industrial Cluster (POIC) was among measures taken by the state government to help provide employment for some 20,000 new job seekers market annually.
“It is a massive responsibility for the state government to ensure available jobs for the people,” he said when opening the state owned POIC (Sabah) Sdn Bhd that has been tasked with setting up the Lahad Datu palm oil industrial cluster.
He said the state was aware that Sabah’s position was near the bottom of the development table in Malaysia due to its high high incidence of poverty and unemployment.
However, things were changing with the support of the federal government which had allocated RM16.9billion for the state under the 9th Malaysia Plan, he added.
The Chief Minister said the state had in the past missed out on value-added opportunities from its booming timber and cocoa industries.
The setting up of the Lahad Datu POIC would generate more revenue and create more jobs for the people, he added.
