VIPs take limelight at poetry recital
KUALA LUMPUR: It was a night of poetry with recitals by the Prime Minister and his deputy as the highlight.
Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi recited a poem entitled Ku Cari Damai Abadi (I am looking for eternal peace) at Puteri Umno's poem rendition held in conjunction with the National Day celebrations here last night.
Before reciting the poem, Abdullah said he had only four poems in his collection and they were Ku Cari Damai Abad and three more for his late wife Datin Paduka Seri Endon Mahmood.
Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak also recited a poem he personally composed entitled Segeralah Bangsaku, Kita Glokalkan (Hurry up my race, we must be glocal) at the event which carried the theme Malam Suara Puteri Merdeka (The voice of Puteri Merdeka night).

AGAINST ALL ODDS: Mohd Rais swimming towards the shore as the crowd cheers him on in Johor Baru yesterday. |
I am very happy that Puteri Umno took the effort to hold this meaningful event, said Najib.
In Johor Baru, Mohd Rais Abu Bakar was the last to complete the ninth annual Swim 4 Fun Merdeka marathon at Stulang Laut here but the crowd cheered when he made it to shore.
The 16-year-old was the only disabled swimmer among the 138 taking part in the 1.2km swim along the Johor Straits.
The wheelchair-bound SM Tasek Utara 2 student was proud and happy to have swum the distance and even more so to have been given the honour of bringing the Jalur Gemilang to shore.
Mohd Rais has diplegia, a type of cerebral palsy affecting mainly the legs, which he developed after a high fever when he was just a year old.
Organised by the Johor Lifesaving Association, the swim was launched by event patron Tengku Shahariah Tunku Abdul Rahman.
